Research Opportunities

The Lemelson Center furthers professional development in the history of invention through fellowships, travel to collections awards, and archival internships.

NOTE: The National Museum of American History is currently closed for a major architectural transformation. The Museum is scheduled to reopen in fall 2008. For more information, visit the Museum's Web site.

The following programs will remain active during the Museum's renovation.

 Lemelson Center Fellowships support projects that present creative approaches to the study of invention and innovation in American society.
   
Sheet music, "The Hot Dog Man"
 Travel to collections awards provide travel funds for research on the history of invention and innovation using the extensive holdings of the Museum's Archives Center and curatorial divisions.
   
Trade catalog for hypodermic syringes
 Archival internships offer training for graduate students in archives studies programs each summer.
