 Acquiring the records of a living inventor provides a unique opportunity to document the invention process itself. Careful background research and preparation will result in a more complete historical record.
Research should uncover information about the individual inventor as well as the historical context of his or her work. Journalism sources (often the only information available) tend to focus on the marketing of the product and the inventor’s role as an entrepreneur, not on the invention process itself.
