Experimenting

Inventors may engage in experiments to solve problems, discover a new material, or test the functionality of a device. Unlike tinkering, experimenting is a goal-oriented, controlled effort to reach a positive outcome. Inventors who experiment will likely have scientific instruments, testing equipment, raw materials, and supplies. Laboratory notebooks and computer files contain information about the experiments conducted and their results.
